Jelena Jankovic Becomes Only the Third Active Player to Register 600 Wins
Serbia’s Jelena Jankovic became only the third active player on the women’s tour to score 600 wins after she sealed a thrilling 7-5 4-6 6-4 conquest of Italy’s Francesca Schiavone en route the quarter-finals of the Guangzhou Open in China.
By the virtue of this triumph, Jankovic joined multiple Grand Slam champions – Serena Williams (737) and Venus Williams (698) – as the only other players to have accomplished the feat in Open Era.
Besides, the 30-year-old also became just the 16th female player ever to have pulled off the mark, joining the likes of Martina Navratilova, Chris Evert, Steffi Graf, Lindsay Davenport, and Billie-Jean King in the elite club.
Jankovic will look to carry on the momentum when she moves on to lock horns with Russia’s Svetlana Kuznetsova for a place in the last-four stage of the tournament.
