Tennis Round-Up: Roger Federer, Andy Murray, Angelique Kerber Win ATP/WTA Titles This Week
ATP Halle, Winner: Roger Federer
Swiss ace Roger Federer justified his top seeding as he rallied to brush aside Italian Andreas Seppi 7-6 6-4 in the final of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle. This was his eighth title here and 86th overall.
The 33-year-old Federer appeared bravura on his first serve. Not only did he conquer 14 aces, but also pulled off a dominating 81 percent on his opening serve to clinch a straight-set win in one hour and 48 minutes.
ATP London, Winner: Andy Murray
Great Britain’s Andy Murray continued to gear up for the Wimbledon Championships in style by completing a serene 6-3 6-4 conquest of big-serving South African Kevin Anderson.
The top seed didn’t offer a break point opportunity on serve, as he survived 10 aces from Anderson to cruise for a straight-set triumph in an hour and 4 minutes.
WTA Birmingham, Winner: Angelique Kerber
Germany’s Angelique Kerber had nerves of steel as she outlasted Karolina Pliskova of Czech Republic in an absolute thriller, winning 7-6 3-6 7-6 in a grueling title-clash that lasted 2 hours and 16 minutes.
Having previously triumphed in Stuttgart and Charleston, this was the third WTA premier championship for Kerber this season.
