Monte Carlo Masters: Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal Ease into 3rd Round
It turned out to be an unproblematic day for the seeds at the Monte Carlo Masters, as some of the top players including Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal eased past their respective second-round opponents on Wednesday.
Federer, the No. 2 seed, dominated his way over French journeyman Jeremy Chardy by pulling off a 6-2 6-1 triumph in just 54 minutes. The Swiss ace, however, has a tough task ahead when he moves on to lock horns with 14th seed Gael Monfils for a place in the next round.
Nadal, the No. 3 seed, also won his battle against wildcard-entrant Lucas Pouille with utmost ease, clinching a 6-2 6-1 triumph in an hour and 8 minutes. The Spaniard pulled off 89 percent of his first-serve points and didn’t give away any break-point opportunity on his serve throughout.
