Seeds Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, Mikhail Kukushkin Stunned in Casablanca
The Grand Prix Hassan II in Casablanca lost its top seed Guillermo Garcia-Lopez on Thursday, after the Spaniard was shown the door by 313th-ranked wildcard entrant in the second round of the tournament.
Little did anybody know about 30-year-old Lamine Ouahab before the match, who arguably played the best tennis of his life to work out a 6-3 6-3 conquest of his 24th-ranked challenger in just one hour and 29 minutes.
Up next, Ouahab is slated to lock horns with Daniel Gimeno-Traver, who pulled off an upset by toppling 7th seed Mikhail Kukushkin, before the latter pulled out of the match while trailing 6-1 4-1.
It was a routine day in the office for 3rd seed Jiri Vesely, who overcame a fiddly first set to wrap up a 7-6 6-3 win over Russian journeyman Mikhail Youzhny.
Meanwhile, Aljaz Bedene made short work of lower-ranked German Arthur De Greef in the battle of qualifiers. The former won a commendable 88 and 79 percent of his first and second-serve points respectively during a 6-2 6-3 rout.
