World Cup 2015: Australia Beat Pakistan, Set Up SF Date with Defending Champs India
World Cup 2015: Australia beat Pakistan by 6 wickets
Australia overcame a spirited challenge from Pakistan to storm into the semifinals of the World Cup 2015, following a 6-wicket triumph in Adelaide on Friday. Moving on, the co-hosts are scheduled to lock horns with defending champions India in the last-four stage.
Earlier, a lethal bowling performance helped Australia bundle out Pakistan for a substandard 213-run total. Fast-bowler Josh Hazlewood was the wrecker-in-chief with a four-for, while Mitchell Starc and Glenn Maxwell also chipped in with a brace apiece.
Needing just 214 runs to win their quarterfinal encounter, Australia survived scare from the Wahab Riaz-led Pakistani bowling unit, as they chased down the target in the 34th over itself.
The match saw a lot many altercations throughout, especially between Wahab Riaz, Mitchell Starc and Shane Watson. However, it was the Australians who had the last laugh with a comprehensive yet nervy win.
Hazlewood (4-35) was adjudged the Player of the Match for his contribution with the ball.
