Chris Gayle became the only fourth player in the history of One-Day International cricket to smash a double-century as his scintillating 215-run knock steered West Indies to a 73-run triumph at Canberra on Tuesday.

Earlier, the flip of the coin went West Indies’ way, who had no hesitation in batting first. The decision, eventually, proved to be a precise one as they went on to pile up their highest total in this format of the game. Besides Gayle (215), Marlon Samuels (133*) also played a crucial role in the duo’s record-breaking 372-run stand.

In response, Zimbabwe lost early wickets, but soon got going as Sean Williams (76) and Craig Ervine (52) chipped in with half-centuries. However post their dismissals, they looked oblivious and ultimately got all-out for 289.

For West Indies, fast-bowlers Jerome Taylor and Jason Holder bagged 3 wickets apiece, while Gayle also showed off his bowling skills by taking 2 wickets.
