Australian Open 2015 – Serena Williams, Victoria Azarenka Reach 4th Round
Australian Open 2015 – World No.1 Serena Williams rallied from one set down to topple 26th seed Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in the third-round encounter at the Rod Laver Arena on Saturday.
The top-seeded American looked rusty in the opening set, but regained her form as the match progressed to ultimately pull off a 4-6 6-2 6-0 conquest of her 26th-ranked counterpart.
Former champion Victoria Azarenka also made it to the last 16 stage with a gutsy 6-4 6-4 win over 25th seed Barbora Zahlavova Strycova of Czech Republic. The Belarusian superstar next faces 11th seed Dominika Cibulkova for a place in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, 6th seed Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland had a routine day in the office, defeating American journeywoman Varvara Lepchenko 6-0 7-5.
The other notable third-round winners of the day include Venus Williams (d. Giorgi), Garbine Muguruza (d. Bacsinszky) and Madison Brengle (d. Vandeweghe).
