Real Madrid drew with Ateltico Madrid in the first leg of 2014 spanish super cup where new summer signing James Rodriguez was on target to make it 1-0 and Raul Garcia scored late in the game to atletico Madrid in comfortable position going into the second leg.

Carlo Ancolotti started with a strong lineup as Ronaldo, Benzema, Kroos and Gareth bale all started while James Rodriguez was on the bench, the game itself was a cagery affair which came to life later in the second half. Both teams canceled each other out at the break with score tied at 0-0. It was more a tactical battle but Real Madrid had the better chances specialy Ronaldo missed a sitter.

In the second half Real madrid introduced their new signing and World cup golden boot winner and they upped the tempo and started to trouble Atletico back four quite frequently. It took 80th minute for the home side to draw first blood when Rodriguez scored from a close range with a deflected effort to make it 1-0 for Real Madrid.
