In need of some serious playmakers on offense, the Buffalo Bills gave up a veritable king’s ransom at May’s 2014 NFL Draft, trading their No. 9 selection along with their first and fourth round picks in 2015 to the Cleveland Browns in order to move up to No. 4 to select heralded Clemson wide receiver (WR) Sammy Watkins.

The Bills got a serious scare during their 19-16 Week 2 preseason loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers last night (Sat., August 16, 2014) when Watkins immediately left the game after a bone crushing hit from rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier.

The play resulted in an incomplete pass, after which Watkins got up apparently grasping his side. He left the game with Bills team trainers and did not return.

Fortunately for the team, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported that Watkins had only suffered a bruised rib and the injury was nothing serious.

While Watkins has failed to break out in limited preseason action thus far, he had already gained notoriety for some incredible catches during training camp. The former ACC star is slated to be an integral part of a Bills offense that is still developing under second year quarterback E.J. Manuel.
