Week 7: Jets vs Patriots Highlights
With five consecutive losses, the reeling 1-5 New York Jets traveled to Foxboro, Massachusetts, to take on AFC East leader New England Patriots tonight (Thurs., October 16, 2014).
New England came in with the momentum of two straight wins over Cincinnati and Buffalo, righting the ship after a 2-2 start that had Patriots fans believing that the sky was falling. But they lost two key players in Week 6 when running back Stevan Ridley and Jerod Mayo went down for the season with knee injuries.
The Patriots needed Shane Vereen to step for the injured Ridley, and he did early on against the Jets, scoring on this wide-open 49-yard pass in the first quarter (courtesy of Vine):
The Jets were able to run the ball seemingly at will with Mayo out of the middle. They added three field goals before Tom Brady hit Vereen with his second score of the night, this time a 3-yard touchdown (Vine):
The Jets added another field goal and the Patriots kicked one of their own to end the half up 17-12.
New York came out aggressive in the second half, rushing down the field to score on this lunging touchdown by running back Chris Ivory, going up 19-17 (Vine):
The Patriots took a 20-19 lead on a field goal by Stephen Gostkowski. They extended their lead to 27-19 with this impressive 19-yard score from Brady to receiver Danny Amendola (Vine):
The Jets stormed back down the field to score on a pass to Jeff Cumberland, but couldn’t capitalize on the two-point conversion to tie the game.
New England was forced to punt and the Jets put together yet another drive to try and win the game with a last-second field goal, but New England blocked the kick to win the game by a final score of 27-19.
