Mexico took the lead through Hernandez in the 54th minute of the match, and it was against the run of play as Japan were the better side untill than. But because Japan were coming into this match on the back of a 4-3 defeat in the hands of Italy couple of days ago they looked tired in the 2nd half and mexico took full advantage of that as they made it 2-0 soon after the first goal and It was Hernandez again who poked the ball home.

Japan got one back as Okazaki scored in the last moments of the match to spice things up in the 2nd half, but Mexico did just enough to hang in there, while Hernandez had a superb chance to complete his hattrick but he missed the penalty in the dying moments.
