At the end of Stanislas Wawrinka’s win over Christian Garin in the second round of the French Open on Wednesday, a little fan was struggling amid the hustle and bustle from spectators seated in the first row.

While most of them were desperate to get hold of Wawrinka’s autograph and mementos, the kid – perhaps tangled in the commotion – was in no mood to join in the celebrations as he kept crying.

Chair umpire Carlos Ramos first spotted that as he alerted Wawrinka, who was courteous enough to go up and pull the boy out of the crowd. He then tried to pacify him before finding out that he was separated from his father.

“I took him out of that mess a little bit, and he was in pain and sad,” he said during the post-match press conference. “I tried to make him feel better, give him a towel, and try to find his dad.”

Earlier in the evening, Wawrinka put on a clinical show to pull off a 6-1 6-4 6-0 win over American Garin. He is next scheduled to lock horns with Bulgarian star Grigor Dimitrov for a place in the pre-quarterfinals on Friday.
