Until Naomi Osaka walked out on centre court on Monday, she was one of the favourites to win Wimbledon. But as her first round match against Yulia Putintseva progressed, it all started turning into nightmare.

After one hour and 36 minutes, Osaka had her dream dashed as she was handed a straight-set 6-7 2-6 defeat by her Russian opponent, ranked 39th in the WTA rankings.

No wonder, she couldn’t hide her emotions throughout the post-match press conference.

“I feel bad, I played poorly and there is nothing I can say that will help improve the way I feel. I have no answers to your questions,” the two-time Grand Slam champion said.

Less than five minutes into it, Osaka appeared teary-eyed when she interrupted a question to ask the moderator if she could leave as she felt like crying before quitting the session midway.

Puntintseva, meanwhile, is next scheduled to lock horns with Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland.
