Jamaican powerhouse Usain Bolt won his third consecutive 100 meter gold after overcoming a slow start to stand atop the podium at the Rio Olympic Games.

Dubbed as the fastest man ever, the 29-year-old lived up to his billing as he clocked 9.81 seconds, well ahead of USA’s silver-medalist Justin Gatlin (9.89) and Canada’s bronze-medalist Andre De Grasse (9.91).

Although Bolt wasn’t the quickest to get off the blocks, he kept up the pace with the rest before eventually easing past Gatlin to perform an encore of what he did in Beijing 2008 and London 2012.

Interestingly, Bolt didn’t appear to push hard to challenge the world record (9.58) or Olympic record (9.63) – both held by him.

The 6 feet 5 footer will look to add on to his success when he features in the 200 meter race and relay team events later at the Games.
