WTA Rankings: Madison Keys, Venus Williams Big Gainers; Sloane Stephens, Victoria Azarenka among Big Losers
The recently-concluded Australian Open 2015 had a great impact on the women’s singles rankings that were officially published by the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) on Monday.
While Serena Williams preserved her apex spot in the list following her triumph Down Under, Russia’s Maria Sharapova also clung on to No. 2 ranking after finishing as the runner-up.
Top Gainers
19-year-old Madison Keys rode on her purple match to spring off some stunning wins en route her semifinal appearance at the Australian Open that helped her clamber 15 spots to become the World No. 20.
Besides, American veteran Venus Williams also ascended 7 places to occupy the 11th spot, thanks to her decent outing last week.
Top Losers
Following her first-round exit, Sloane Stephens dropped 9 spots to take the 41st place, while Belarusian Victoria Azarenka – despite a decent performance at the Open – plunged 5 positions to 49th rank in the WTA rankings.
