French tennis player Nicolas Mahut landed himself in trouble after accidentally hitting a ball girl with a serve during his second round match against Switzerland’s Stan Wawrinka at the at Queen’s Club on Thursday.

After losing one of the points, Mahut decided to work on his service by unleashing a practice serve. It, however, turned out to be dangerous as the ball went on to hit a busy ball girl right in the face.

Visibly in pain, the ball girl started crying as Wawrinka went up to her to see if she was fine.

Even as the girl continued for a while (she left the court soon after), Mahut was given a code violation for unsportsmanlike conduct, and could face further fine for negligence, according to reports.

Mahut went on to complete a come-from-behind 3-6 7-5 7-6 win over Wawrinka and set up a quarter-final date with countryman Gilles Simon.
