It was supposed to be one cracker of contest. Surprisingly, though, it turned out to be a lopsided affair.
Nick Kyrgios produced a clinical performance to ease past Alexander Zverev, winning 6-3 7-5 in a battle between two promising young players in the semi-finals of the China Open in Beijing on Saturday.
The disappointment was visible on the better-ranked Zverev’s face as he vented anger on his racquet, smashing it on the surface before flinging it away in disgust.
This is not the first time that the 20-year-old destroyed his racquet, having done the same at Shanghai Masters last year and the Australian Open 2017 as well.
