VIDEO: Dominic Thiem’s wayward shot knocks down fan’s phone at Canadian Open

Dominic Thiem registered a big win over former US Open champion Marin Cilic, winning 7-6 6-4 to storm into the quarter-finals of the ATP Canadian Open.
Apart from serving 10 aces, the Austrian No. 2 seed showed nerves of steel at crucial junctures, saving all of his nine break points while earning the solitary break of the match to come out victorious after one hour and 53 minutes.
However, not every single thing went Thiem’s way.
During one of the rallies, the world No. 4 miscued an overhead smash that went into the stands. And guess what? A couple, perhaps recording the proceedings, had their phone knocked down after the wayward ball crashed straight on to it.
Thiem, however, was quick to serve up an apology.
“I beat two amazing players,” Thiem, who earlier beat Canadian young gun Denis Shapovalov, was quoted as saying by ATP World Tour.
“I’ve really had a great transition from good confidence in the European summer. That’s also my first quarter-finals here.
“The match today was unreal because I saved nine out of nine break points, which doesn’t happen that often.”
Thiem is scheduled to square off against Daniil Medvedev of Russia on Friday.
