Sergiy Stakhovsky’s gesture at the Gerry Weber Open on Wednesday will perhaps be remembered for a long time.

The Ukrainian tennis star was up against Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the second round at the ATP 250 event in Halle, when he produced an epic moment of sportsmanship.

Serving at 1-5 (40-15) in the first set, Herbert’s serve was called wide by the chair umpire. With no challenges remaining, he went up to Stakhovsky to ask if he could challenge for him.

He obliged, and the replays showed the ball landed well inside. Guess what? Herbert was awarded the point. Incredible stuff, isn’t it?

Despite, Herbert went on to rally from the brink of defeat to prevail 2-6 7-6 6-4 over Stakhovsky after a thrilling battle that lasted exactly two hours.

He will next face either Borna Coric of Croatia or Portugal’s Joao Sousa in the last eight stage.
