Stanislas Wawrinka Suffers Doubles Loss; Leander Paes Sails at Chennai Open
Aircel Chennai Open’s star player, Stanislas Wawrinka, crashed out of the doubles event after going down in the quarterfinals of the tournament, partnering Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut.
The Swiss-Spanish duo went down fighting to the doubles specialist combination of Purav Raja and Adil Shamasdin 7-6, 4-6, 10-4 in the last-eight encounter on Thursday.
Meanwhile, top seeds Leander Paes and Raven Klaasen powered through to the semifinals with a 1-6, 6-1, 10-7 conquest of Saketh Myneni and Mahesh Bhupathi.
In the other doubles match-ups, Pablo Carreno Busta/Guillermo Garcia-Lopez defeated Ricardas Berankis (6-4, 0-6, 10-4), while Yen-Hsun Lu/Jonathan Marray took out second seeds Andre Begemann/Robin Haase (3-6, 7-6, 10-6).
Meanwhile, second seed Feliciano Lopez suffered a shock defeat in the second round of the singles event by bowing out to qualifier Aljaz Bedene 4-6, 4-6.
