Stanislas Wawrinka, Leander Paes Off to Winning Starts at Chennai Open Doubles
Stanislas Wawrinka made a successful rare doubles appearance at the ATP 250 Chennai Open 2015 in India, as the Swiss partnered Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut to win the opening match on Tuesday.
The Swiss-Spanish duo had nerves of steel en route their thrilling 5-7, 6-3, 10-8 triumph over Johan Brunstrom and Nicholas Monroe in the first-round encounter that lasted for an hour and 23 minutes.
Meanwhile, 14-time Grand Slam winner, Leander Paes, also kicked-off his campaign in style, as he joined hands with South African Raven Klaasen to beat Andreas Haider-Maurer and Lukas Lacko 6-4, 6-4 in the other doubles clash.
Second seeds Andre Begemann and Robin Haase prevailed over Frantisek Cermak and Jiri Vesely 7-6, 6-4.
