The stage for the women’s title-clash is all set: two of the world’s top-ranked players – Serena Williams and Maia Sharapova – are scheduled to lock horns in the ultimate battle of the Australian Open 2015. The duo overcame their respective semifinal opponents in straight-sets on Wednesday to move a step closer to the coveted title Down Under.

With this win, the American powerhouse has secured her top ranking irrespective of the final result.
Meanwhile, No. 2 seed Maria Sharapova pulled off a 6-3 6-2 conquest of countrywoman Ekaterina Makarova in a dominating fashion. The fancied Russian won 81 per cent of her first-serve points and scored 23 winners against 11 off her opponent to clinch a serene win at the infamous Rod Laver Arena.
Ahead of the title-clash, Serena lead the head-to-head record by 16-2 against Sharapova.
