Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal could regain No. 1 ranking soon
Thanks to their stunning recent results, two of the tennis greats — Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal — could regain the numero uno position in the ATP rankings.
While Federer defied odds to win the Australian Open and the Wimbledon more recently, Nadal proved why he is called the ‘King of Clay’ by winning an unprecedented 10th French Open title.
And that, combined with the fall in form of the otherwise dominating duo of Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic, has given them a chance to vie for the No. 1 ranking.
Current ATP rankings:
- Andy Murray (7750 points)
- Rafael Nadal (7465)
- Roger Federer (6545)
- Novak Djokovic (6325)
Points to defend till year end:
Andy Murray – 5460
Novak Djokovic – 3740
Rafael Nadal – 370
Roger Federer – 0
Hence, Nadal could take over as the new World No. 1 at the Cincinnati Masters. For Federer, he needs to win both Cincinnati as well as Montreal Masters.
However, with Federer not expected to participate in both the tournaments, it’s likely that the US Open will prove to be the deciding factor in confirming the new No. 1.
