Czech Republic’s Petra Kvitova claimed her 15th title on the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) tour after brushing aside compatriot Karolina Pliskova in the title-clash on Friday.

The second seed needed one hour and 52 minutes to shrug off a strong challenge from her big-serving counterpart in a two-set thriller at the Ken Rosewall Arena here.

“It’s always nice to win a title for sure. It’s a great feeling, and I’m just glad to have it here,” a delightful Kvitova was quoted as saying by the tournament’s official site after her 7-6 7-6 victory.

“Karolina played really well and she served very well, and was really difficult,” she continued. “I miss few of the rallies and the shots were just really amazing. And I’m just glad that I played what I had to play today and finally I won in the tiebreak.”

As reward for her triumph, Kvitova walks away with 470 WTA ranking points and $124,000 as the prize money.

Meanwhile, the Indo-American combination of Sania Mirza and Bethanie Mattek-Sands – who are considered to be one of the best pals on the tour – won the doubles title with a stunning 6-3 6-3 conquest of Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears in the summit clash.
