Nick Kyrgios Takes a Jibe at Tweet Criticizing Lleyton Hewitt
Contentious Australian tennis player, Nick Kyrgios, couldn’t resist himself from indulging in yet another controversy after he lashed out at a journalist criticizing Lleyton Hewitt on Twitter.
Hewitt, who had retired from professional tennis earlier this year, made a comeback to represent Australia for the Davis Cup tie against USA after Kyrgios’ pulled out citing virus and back issues.
Journalist Ben Rothenberg – in his article for Fox Sports Australia – opined that the 35-year-old Hewitt would be ‘selfish’ if he replaces countryman Sam Groth to feature in the reverse singles.
This, however, didn’t go down well with Kyrgios, who hit back at Rothenberg, tweeting: “Ben Rothenberg could be the worst writer to exist. Sit the fk down mate. Smh (sic),” he wrote.
Earlier, Hewitt had teamed up with Groth for the doubles rubber but went down fighting to the American Bryan Brothers in an intense five-set battle to concede a 1-2 lead in the tie.
In my view it’d be a dodgy, selfish thing for Lleyton to do…he’s been a mediocre (at best) player for some time now. https://t.co/Z2OKNVCmhm
