Lleyton Hewitt heaped rich praise on fellow Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios, backing him to defeat anybody on a given day. Hewitt, who is scheduled to feature in his career swansong at the Australian Open 2016, said that Kyrgios is competent to break into the Top 10 of the ATP world rankings.

“He certainly can (enter the Top 10),” the 34-year-old Hewitt was quoted as saying by The Guardian. “He can match it with the best guys in the world. On his day he’s capable of beating anyone. That’s the kind of power and talent he has out there. It’s just a matter of doing that week in, week out,” he added.

Kyrgios, 20, has enjoyed a nascent start to his career. His quarter-final appearance at the Wimbledon Championships 2014 – where in process he overcame the likes of Rafael Nadal and Richard Gasquet –  can be termed as the watershed moment of his career.

And since then, it has been no looking back for Kyrgios, who went on to make the quarter-finals of the Australian Open 2015 as well. This seems to have made an impression on Hewitt.

“He likes playing on the biggest stages and the biggest tournaments,” he said. “I know his game pretty well. He’s got a great platform to build on for the next three to five years.”
