Marinko Matosevic Replaces Injured Juan Martin Del Potro in Wimbledon Draw
Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro has officially pulled out of the upcoming Wimbledon Championships as he continues to recuperate from a wrist surgery that he underwent earlier this week.
The 26-year-old has featured in just four matches on the tour this year – splitting them all. He last played at Miami in March, where he suffered an appalling first-round exit (lost to Vasek Pospisil).
“Juan Martin Del Potro has withdrawn from the Championships 2015 due to recent wrist surgery,” a statement (via Reuters) from the All England Club confirmed the news.
As a replacement for the Argentine in the draw, the officials have named Australia’s Marinko Matosevic to compete in the main round. The 138th-ranked Aussie has had a forgettable season so far owing to a 4-16 win-loss record this season.
The main draw of the Wimbledon Championships is scheduled to kick-start from June 29.
