Maria Sharapova Lashes Out at US Open after Tweet on Rafael Nadal’s Exit
Russia’s Maria Sharapova may have withdrawn from the US Open 2015 due to an injury, but she’s seemingly been following the tournament keenly.
Soon after 14-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal faced a stunning third-round egress (lost to Italy’s Fabio Fognini) in the men’s singles event here, the official tournament Twitter handle posted a tweet that read: “This is the first time in 10 years that #Rafa will NOT win a Grand Slam.”
However, this off-putting observation seemed to have not gone down well with many – one of them being Sharapova.
She, then, retorted by mentioning the other side of the coin: “A much more appropriate headline would be he HAS won a grand slam EVERY year in past 10 (TEN!!) years. #respect?”
A great mark of respect to one of the sport’s legends, isn’t it?
