Ace Australian tennis player, Lleyton Hewitt, is bidding to get his hands on some match practice at the Hopman Cup before featuring in his swansong at the Australian Open 2015, which would mark his record 20th consecutive appearance at the season-opening Grand Slam.

The 34-year-old, who has been dormant on the tour this year with a 4-9 record, is set to hang up his racquet and captain the Australia’s Davis Cup team, after competing in the two tournament on his home soil in January next year.

“It’s important going into the Australian Open, because I haven’t played that many tournaments this year, just to get matches under my belt. So the Hopman Cup provides that for me, I’m guaranteed three, possibly four matches against quality players” Hewitt was quoted as saying by SportsFan.

A former Wimbledon and US Open champion in singles, Hewitt divulged that the thirst of getting out on the court is still there in him, and that he is looking forward to challenging the best players in the world. “I still love getting out there and competing and playing against the best guys in the world,” he added.
