Guillermo Garcia-Lopez Topples Jiri Vesely for Bucharest Title
Veteran Spanish tennis player, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, pulled off his fifth title on the ATP World Tour after clinching a two-set thriller against Czech Republic’s Jiri Vesely in the summit clash on Sunday.
Besides winning a dominating 78 percent of his first-serve points, Garcia-Lopez thoroughly won the battle of nerves by winning both the tie-breakers to score a 7-6 7-6 conquest in a grueling battle that lasted for 2 hours and 14 minutes.
“It was complicated for me to close the match,” the Spaniard told the official ATP website. “I was feeling nervous, a lot of things crossing my mind, but in the end I was happy to win.
“When you work hard, there is always a reward, not only in tennis, but in life in general.”
In the doubles final, Marius Copil and Adrian Ungur had nerves of steel to register a 3-6 7-5 17-15 conquest of Nicholas Monroe and Artem Sitak.
