4th seed Sara Errani was the only seed to crash out of the Family Circle Cup in Charleston on Friday, as the other seeds – Andrea Petkovic, Angelique Kerber and Madison Keys – progressed to the semifinals.

It turned out to be a fruitless day for Errani, who was dominated by Czech qualifier Lucie Hradecka throughout. The latter, eventually, went on to pull off a stunning 6-2 6-4 conquest in an hour and 14 minutes.

3rd seed Andrea Petkovic and 5th seed Angelique Kerber had to play out of their skin in their quest to reach the last-four stage. While the former rallied from a set down to prevail over qualifier Danka Kovinic 2-6 6-3 6-1, the latter defeated Irina-Camelia Begu in two tie-breakers.

Madison Keys, the No. 7 seed, had a smooth progress to the semifinals. The American powerhouse clamped a ceiling on countrywoman Lauren Davis’ dream run, clinching a commendable 6-2 6-2 triumph.
