Australian Open 2015: Leander Paes Announces New Partners for Men’s Doubles, Mixed Doubles
India’s doubles ace, Leander Paes, announced his pairings for the Australian Open 2015 that begins in January Down Under.
Paes, 41, will be joining hands with South African doubles-specialist Raven Klaasen for the men’s doubles event, while he will be seen playing alongside Swiss veteran Martina Hingis in the mixed doubles event.
“When I select a partner, I want him to have my weaknesses as his strengths,” Paes was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
“Raven has world-class backhand and big serves, which is a big plus for our partnership,” he added of his new partner, who will become Paes’ 99th career-partner.
The Mumbai-resident continued: “I will be playing with Raven in the Australian Open next year, but we are contemplating playing in a few warm-up tournaments before that. It may be Doha or Chennai.”
Paes has won 8 men’s doubles and 6 mixed doubles Grand Slam titles till date.
