World No. 3 Andy Murray has been in his career-best form and is second to just top-ranked Novak Djokovic heading into next week’s Roland Garros, insists former British No. 1 Annabel Croft.

The 28-year-old has been in best of his forms of late, winning almost four titles on the trot. ‘Almost’, for he pulled off crowns in Munich and Madrid, but failed to get past Djokovic both in Miami and Indian Wells title-clash.

En route his triumph in Madrid, Murray clinched his first ever clay-court victory over Rafael ‘King of Clay’ Nadal, besides overcoming the likes of Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic in the preliminary encounters. This feat seems to impress Croft.

“I think Murray’s tennis is at a level now where it’s almost as high if not higher than when he won Wimbledon and the US Open,” the former World No. 21 was quoted as saying by Evening Times.

“Beating Nadal in Madrid was a really big win mentally for him because he’s always looked up to Nadal, but he also knows Nadal is well, well beneath his best,” she continued.

“Now he can always say he beat Nadal on clay and, in my mind, he’s the second favorite going into the French Open.”

Murray is 34-6 overall this season.
