I’m among the worst players to claim 500th win, says Richard Gasquet
Richard Gasquet became first French tennis player to complete 500 singles career wins in Open Era after sealing his berth in the quarter-finals of the Monte Carlo Masters.
Gasquet pulled off a 6-2 7-5 win over Micha Zverev in the third round, becoming only the eighth active player on the ATP World Tour to achieve the milestone.
The others to have gotten there are: Roger Federer (1149), Rafael Nadal (881), Novak Djokovic (788), David Ferrer (724), Andy Murray (655), Tomas Berdych (626), and Tommy Robredo (533).
However, a humble guy that he is, Gasquet considers himself among the worst to be in the list.
“I’m happy I did it in Monte-Carlo 16 years after my first victory,” the 31-year-old said.
“There are very few players who have achieved this… I certainly am among the worst of players [to achieve it].”
Meanwhile, Gasquet will look to continue his run on red dirt when he squares off against Alexander Zverev in the last-eight stage on Friday.
