Sania Mirza, Rohan Bopanna Hit Back at Leander Paes Over Selection Comments
It seems that controversy is the bedrock of Indian tennis. It all began with selection issues at 2012 London Games. The 2016 Games in Rio were nothing but a recurrence. But just when it all seemed to be vanquishing, the creamy layer has reinstated the hullabaloo back in the camp.
Following India’s 5-0 loss to Spain in the Davis Cup World Group play-offs, Leander Paes reiterated that India went wrong with their team combinations and hence returned medal-less.
Paes’ remarks referred to his exclusion from India’s mixed doubles team for Rio, where the national body finalized Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna to join forces.
“I can very clearly say that in this Olympics and last Olympics we didn’t put the best team forward. [It’s] sad,” he said.
But, this didn’t go down well with his compatriots as they took to Twitter to hit back at Paes’ annotations.
The ONLY way to win with a toxic person, is not to play!!! #karmaiswatching #zenmode ????????

At it again!! …the usual ploy to stay in the news by slanging fellow players in media. #Patriotism

Whatever may be the reason, Indian tennis is surely heading in the wrong lane!
