2014 Tennis US Open Predictions & Schedule of Play
Last Grand Slam Tournament of the year is upon us.US Open will be kicking off from 25th of this year in New York. Expectations of another historical tournament; which potentially will be full of new records, are high among fans.
Novac Djokovic will be entering the tournament as top seed while, the 17 time Grand-Slam Champion, Roger Federer is 2nd seed.
Third seed is the reigning Australian Champion Stanislas Wawrinka. David Murray will be clinging to the 4th seed while Andy Murray is been seeded eighth.
The American number one , John Isner , is seeded as low as fifteen. Therefore, the chances for a nation which has produced 51 men’s major winners (twice as that of any other nation),to get its hand on the trophy are very meager.
Injury will be keeping Del Potro out of the Grand-Slam. To the disgust of Defending US Open Champion, Rafael Nadal fans, The King of Clay, will not be part of this tournament. Nadal pulled out of the tournament few days ago and took to Facebook to explain his decision to his fans.
US Open Men’s Singles Seeds:
- 1. Novak Djokovic, Serbia
- 2. Roger Federer, Switzerland
- 3. Stanislas Wawrinka, Switzerland
- 4. David Ferrer, Spain
- 5. Milos Raonic, Canada
- 6. Tomas Berdych, Czech Republic
- 7. Grigor Dimitrov, Bulgaria
- 8. Andy Murray, Great Britain
- 9. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, France
- 10. Kei Nishikori, Japan
Predictions:
It is no simple job to pick out a single player out of a lot of exceptionally talented players. There are definitely certain names who haven’t made into the headlines yet, but with the range of shots which they possess, its only matter of dealing with the game pressure which stands between them and victory. Having said that, I am not in a mood to commit the folly of ignoring three of the “Big four” who will be participating in the tournament.
Roger Federar who had to suffer the worst defeat for him in a decade, when he lost in 4th round at the hands of Tommy Robredo in 2013, is all gearing up to bag 18th major trophy.
Novac Djokovic is coming off two third round defeats in Toronto and Cincinnati. Things haven’t been really good enough for him in recent past but he is ambitious to turn things around in New York.
Andy Murray hasn’t won any big tournament since his famous victory in Wimbledon 2013.
Keeping all these prospects in mind along with Nada’s absence, another Roger Federer victory might be on cards unless Djokovic gets his act together soon enough to deny Federer the opportunity to make his already gleaming career more sparkling. Clash between Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer will be one fine spectacle.
In the women’s competition, matches will be no less tense. Serena Williams will be looking forward to end her Grand-Slam drought but it won’t be easy target to achieve with the Russian star, Maria Sharapova in competition who is coming off from a victory in Roland Garros.
Serena is pretty confident about her chances as this statement reflects: “I’m in some of the best shape I’ve been in”.
Besides Maria Sharapova there is another young star knocking at the door of glory who will be looking forward to levitate her status among top players. Simona Halep, is one fine player who has potential to win the tournament.
