Australia have extended their aggregate lead to 363 runs on the penultimate day of the ongoing first Test match against India in Adelaide, after the hosts exhibited some credible performances with the willow on Friday.

Earlier, a lethal spell from off-spinner Nathan Lyon had helped Australia bundle out India for 444 runs, which helped them cruise for a 73-run lead in the first innings.

They dragged their lead by amassing 290 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the second innings before stumps on Day 4.

David Warner (102) was the pick of the batsmen, scoring his second consecutive century. He was ably supported by Steve Smith (52*) and an aggressive 26-ball knock from all-rounder Mitchell Marsh (40).

For India, Karn Sharma picked 2 wickets, while fast-bowlers Varun Aaron and Mohammed Shami grabbed a wicket apiece.

With just one more day’s play remaining, Australia are expected to make an overnight declaration to fancy their odds of winning the match.

As for the touring team, they will look to bat out all day and settle for a draw in the opening rubber of the series.
