England women’s cricketer Kate Cross was involved in an embarrassing gaffe during the second Twenty20 International against the West Indies in Northampton earlier this week.

During the 16th over of West Indies’ chase, Cross missed the easiest of run-out chances after she failed to notice the batswoman was well short of crease, off her own bowling. Instead of dislodging the bails at the non-striker’s end, she threw it to wicket-keeper, where there was no chance of a run-out.

The 27-year-old, though, later took to her official Twitter handle to clarify on the incident. “Good to see I didn’t panic on live TV because there was a bail on the floor at my end,” she wrote.

Despite the gaffe, the England women went on to pull off a 42-run win. As two other matches were washed out due to rain, the hosts took the three-match series 1-0.
