Hosts Australia exhibited a spectacular all-round performance to hammer defending champions India by 95 runs at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday. By the virtue of this win, the 4-time champions set up a title-clash with New Zealand.

Earlier, the flip of the coin went Australia’s way, who subsequently opted to bat first. The decision, eventually, appeared to be pertinent, as they amassed a colossal total of 329-7 in 50 overs. Steven Smith (105) and Aaron Finch (81) made pivotal contributions.

In their quest to chase down a gigantic total, India got off to a strong start. However, their success was short-lived, as they stumbled after regular intervals to a lethal Australian bowling unit, who overcome a stiff resistance from Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (65) to bowl out the visitors for 233 runs in the 47th over itself.

The Australians now move on to Melbourne where they’ll be locking horns with co-hosts New Zealand on March 29.
