India may have suffered their first defeat the ongoing World Cup, but star batsman Rohit Sharma appeared in high spirits while addressing media following their 31-loss to England on Sunday.

After Jonny Bairstow (111), Ben Stokes (79) and Jason Roy (66) powered to hosts to 337-7, India put on a valiant fight with Rohit (102) going on to score his third century of the tournament. Even as the opener was involved in a 138-run stand with captain Virat Kohli (66), the visitors eventually could only manage 306-5

Rishabh Pant, who was included into the XI for the first at the mega event, scored a 29-ball 32. Naturally, questions over his inclusion popped up in the post-match press conference.

And Rohit gave the cheekiest answer possible. “All you guys wanted Rishabh Pant to play, right? Right from India [there were questions] ‘Where is Rishabh Pant? Where is Rishabh Pant?’ There he is at Number 4,” he said with a chuckle.

No wonder, the press room burst into laughter.

England did a whole world of good to them by adding two more points to their tally. The job’s not done yet as they will have to get another W when they lock horns with New Zealand in their final group fixture on Wednesday.

India, on the other hand, will have to win one of their remaining two contests, against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to guarantee themselves a place in the semi-finals.
