Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur slammed a reporter for criticizing batsman Haris Sohail’s for the way he paced up his knock against South Africa in the ongoing World Cup on Sunday.

Sohail, who came it when Pakistan were 140-3 in 30 overs, smashed 89 off just 59 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes in the process to power his team’s total to 308-7.

One journalist, however, observed Sohail was exhausted during the fag end – last three overs of the innings, in his words – which perhaps stopped him from scoring a century.

Although his statement wasn’t factually incorrect (Pakistan managed just 20 runs off the last three) Arthur was just not happy to see their best batsman of the day face criticism.

“In the last 3 overs, you made only 20 runs. He looked exhausted. What’s the problem?” Arthur was asked during the press conference following Pakistan’s 49-run victory.

“Why can’t you speak something positive about Haris?” he snapped. “He got 89 off 59 balls today. Is that right? Why are you always talking negatively about our players?

“That was his one of the all-time best innings that I have seen. Let’s just write something positive about them for a change, please.”

Pakistan next face New Zealand on July 26.
