Mumbai Indians qualified for the playoffs after prevailing over SunRisers Hyderabad following a super over thriller at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday night.

Even as his team ended up on the winning side, Kieron Pollard had a tough day in the office. First, the West Indian all-rounder could only manage 10 runs with the bat in his hand. Then, he had a close shave with the boundary hoardings.

It happened in the fourth over of Hyderabad’s batting, when opener Wriddhiman Saha pulled one off Jasprit Bumrah, prompting Pollard – fielding at mid-on – to give it a chase.

He tried his best, pushing his 6’5″ frame as hard as he could before he attempted to kick the ball back inside the ropes. Not only did he fail in his effort, but he also took a dangerous tumble.

That wasn’t the only such instance of the evening involving Pollard. During the last over of Mumbai’s bowling, Pollard tripped over while attempting to take a catch of Mohammad Nabi, only for it to land beyond the ropes.

Earlier, Manish Pandey scored a six off the final ball to help Hyderabad take the game into super over, where Mumbai chased the visitors’ 9-run target in just three balls.
