Crazy scenes erupted towards the fag end of the Indian Premier League (IPL) eliminator between Delhi Capitals and SunRisers Hyderabad in Visakhapatnam on Wednesday night.

Needing two runs to win in three balls, Hyderabad’s Amit Mishra failed to connect a Khaleel Ahmed delivery but set off in an attempt to steal a bye.

Mishra almost got successful in his endeavor after wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha missed a run-out chance. While running towards the non-striker’s end, however, the batsman changed his direction, covering the entire stumps in an obvious quest to not let Khaleel run him out.

The bowler showed presence of mind by going for a review. And guess what? Mishra was given out for obstructing the field, much to his dismay.

Despite the controversy, Delhi got over the line after Keemo Paul pulled one for a four, keeping his team on course for a maiden IPL title.

Earlier, Hyderabad rode on Martin Guptill’s 19-ball 36 and cameos from Vijay Shankar (25) and Mohammad Nabi (20) to post 162-8 in 20 overs.

In response, Delhi got off to a solid start, courtesy Prithvi Shaw’s 56 off 38 balls. Even as they kep losing wickets from one end, Rishabh Pant’s 21-ball 49 ensured they knocked Hyderabad out of the tournament.

Delhi are now scheduled to lock horns with Chennai Super Kings in Qualifier 2 on Friday.
