Australia batsman Alex Carey was hit on the helmet by a vicious bouncer off England fast bowler Jofra Archer during the World Cup semi-finals on Thursday.

The incident happened on the last ball of the eighth over when Carey failed to dodge a short ball. The impact of the blow was such that it took his helmet off.

Carey was quick to call out the physio after he started bleeding from the chin. He, however, showed immense heart by continuing to bat with a plaster on.

With Australia struggling big time at 19-3 at that moment, Carey (46) steadied the ship alongside Steve Smith (85) before being dismissed by leg-spinner Adil Rashid.

The defending champions went on to get all-out for 223 runs with one over to spare.

The hosts ensured there will be a new world champion this time around as they rode on opener Jason Roy’s 65-ball 85 to chase down the target in just 32.1 overs and eight wickets in hand.

England will face New Zealand in the all-important clash on Sunday.
