South Africa cricket team which is also known as Proteas is currently traveling Sri Lanka where Sri Lanka cricket board has organized a home tournament with Proteas. The main purpose was to play three matches Test series but later, one Test was replaced to ODI and T20I competition. However, the earlier team South Africa faced Test series defeat against Sri Lanka and now, they are in the ODI schedule. The ODI series consists of five match where in the first match, South Africa won by 5 wickets against the Lions.

The first match started in 29th July, 2018 and the host venue was Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Dambulla. The match was the 100th ODI match for Angelo Mathews as the captain of Sri Lankan team. Earlier the home team Sri Lanka won the toss and in their known ground, they decided to bat first.

Dickwella and Tharanga started to bat for the Lions in the first match. In 2 runs opener Dickwella was gone. Just 9 runs later, one down player Mendis was gone as well. In 22 runs another opener Tharanga followed the same way. It seems that they lost top five wickets in 36 runs. Later, Kusal Perera and Thisara Perera made a partnership that added almost 100 runs. Both of them scored 81 and 49 runs respectively. Rest players failed to do their jobs and lost all wickets in 193 runs so far. They played 34.3 overs in the match where Rabada and Shamsi took four wickets each for the team South Africa.

Later, Proteas came to chase the score. In 31 runs Amla was gone where he with De Kock opened the innings for South Africa. De Kock scored 47 runs so far. Markram was flopp in the day and failed to open run account. Captain Plessis and Duminy aldo played well in the match. Duminy left the ground with victory. He scored 53 runs highest for the team. Captain Du Plessis scored 47 runs so far. In 31 overs team South AFrica lost five wickets and reached the destination target. Dananjaya took three wickets highest for the Lions. Tabraiz Shamsi was announced as the player of the match at the end.

Now, team Proteas has to win two more matches to secure the ODI series. The 2nd ODI will take place in 1st August, 2018 at the same venue of Dambulla.
