All-Round Glenn Maxwell Guides Australia to Tri-Series Triumph
All-rounder Glenn Maxwell scored 95 runs and bagged 4 wickets, as his heroics helped Australia crush England by 112 runs in the title-clash of the triangular series at Perth on Sunday.
Earlier, the hosts recovered from being reduced to 60-4 at one stage to amass 278 runs in the 50-over quota; thanks to pivotal contributions from Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh (60) and James Faulkner (50*).
For England, Stuart Broad (3/55) was the pick of the bowlers, while James Anderson also had 2 wickets to his name.
Chasing a healthy total, the visitors were clueless against a lethal bowling performance from the Australians. They kept losing wickets after regular intervals and eventually got all-out for a paltry 166 within 40 overs.
While Maxwell was named the Man of the Match for his supreme performance both with the bat and ball, fast-bowler Mitchell Starc was adjudged the Man of the Series for 12 wickets in the series.
