Rangpur Riders won by 8 wickets

The group stage matches of Bangladesh Premier League 2017/18 have successfully finished and now the time has come for knockout phase. Among seven participants, total four teams have made it to the knockout round. And before making any qualifying round, Rangpur Riders and Khulna Titans had to play eliminator stage. The match was staged in 8th December, 2017 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka where Rangpur Riders won by 8 wickets against Khulna Titans. Though at the beginning it seemed that the match was under control of Titans but came to chase the score, Chris Gayle presented a destructive innings for the Riders and led the team to victory.

However, earlier Rangpur Riders won the toss and let Khulna Titans to bat first at Dhaka.Khulna played well and at the end they did able to present 167 runs milestone in front of Riders. It seemed that they were going to win the match and The first two wickets of Riders were gone so early. But in 3rd wicket partnership between Chris Gayle and Mohammad Mithun, Rangpur Riders almost robbed the victory.

Khulna Titans started their innings with Shanto and Klinger but the opening partnership was broken by Sohag Gazi who took Shanto in 21 runs. Just 12 runs later, Afif Hossain was gone as well who scored 11 runs so far.Later, captain Mahmudullah came up and join with Klinger and both tried a bit. Klinger was gone with 21 and Mahmudullah scored 20 runs so far. In that day, once again Ariful Haque played well. He scored highest 29 runs and made partnership with Pooran who scored 28 runs so far. Most of the players did score two figure runs and after losing six wickets Brathwaite and Archer finished the innings with 167 runs. Riders bowlers could not dominate the crease but Lankan bowler Lasith Malinga took two wickets in exchange for 49 runs.

On the other side, Rangpur Riders came to chase the score and they were desperate. But in 24 runs, their opening partnership was broken . Sohag Gazi was gone by Archer. He scored just 1 run. Later, McCullum came up but did not do better. He went to the pavilion before open his run account. Losing two wickets consecutively, the Riders were in trouble and when Gayle and Mithun took the led and dominated the bowlers. They finished the game with victory. Gayle scored 126 runs in 51 balls. He made six 4’s and fourteen 6’s. For Khulna, Archer took two wickets so far.
