India’s stand-in captain, Virat Kohli, continued his impressive performance as the skipper, ticking all the boxes yet again to guide the hosts to a comprehensive series win, as the hosts pulled off a serene 6-wicket conquest of Sri Lanka to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the 5-match one-day international series.

Earlier, Sri Lanka skipper Angelo Mathews won the toss and decided to bat first, which ultimately came out to be a wrong decision, as the visitors were bundled out for 242 runs; thanks to career-best performances from Umesh Yadav (4/53) and Axar Patel (3/40).

Chasing a modest total, India looked in complete control throughout, as the hosts – led by Shikhar Dhawan (91) and Virat Kohli (53) – chased down the target with 6 wickets in hand and 5.5 overs to spare.

“That was a brilliant performance, especially with the ball,” Kohli was quoted as saying by CricBuzz. “It was a commendable effort from the bowlers though we were a bowler short.

“Dhawan batted well. All in all, it was a solid performance.”
