Multan Sultans won 1st match in PSL

Multan Sultans is the newborn participant in Pakistan Super league. It is their first time in the event and they are representing the city of Multan. As per the schedule of Pakistan Super league 2018, the opening match was staged between Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans where Multan Sultans won 1st match in PSL. So, it seems that their journey in the competition started very good.

Multan Sultans won 1st match in PSL

Peshawar Zalmi is the current champion of PSL and in the last season, they beat Quetta Gladiators in final. So, by winning against the most powerful team was a great achievement for Multan Sultans.

The team Multan Sultans is currently led by local player Shoaib Malik. Besides, the vice captain of the team is West Indies player Kieron Pollard. The team is pretty strong where there are number of foreign players added.

The inaugural match between Zalmi and Sultans started in 22nd February, 2018 and it was placed at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. For Peshawar Zalmi, Ibtisam Sheikh made his T20 debut. In the match, English Tim Robinson and Pak Ahmed Shahab were the field umpires.

Earlier the match, at the toss Multan Sultans won it and decided to bowl first. So, Peshawar Zalmi came to bat by facing no alternative options. They played whole 20 overs in the match where their player Mohammad Hafeez scored highest 59 runs in 52 balls. So, in selected 20 overs Zalmi made the score to 151 in exchange for six wickets. Mohammad Irfan took two wickets for Sultans. The score was good to chase and the newborn team Multan Sultans started the innings well and finally in 19.1 overs, they made the chase successful. They lost three wickets and scored 152 runs. Their top scorer was Kumar Sangakkara scored highest 57 runs in 51 balls. On the other side, for Zalmi Wahab Riaz took two wickets so far. He was in good form and spent few runs. So, Multan Sultans won the inaugural match by seven wickets. Their player Sangakkara was declared as the man of the match later.

Tamim Iqbal and Kamran Akmal failed to make a good start for Zalmi. But later, Smith and Hafeez played with full responsibility. Smith scored 24 runs where Hafeez scored 59 runs so far. Next two players added 14 and 29 runs respectively. So, the innings of Zalmi ended up in 151 runs.
