Australia have suffered a huge setback ahead of the Boxing Day Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground against India, as their  all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been ruled out of the match due to a right hamstring injury.

The Australian selectors have named uncapped Queensland batsman, Joe Burns, as Marsh’s replacement for the penultimate encounter of the 4-match Test series Down Under.

“That’s the only change. Mitch Marsh will travel with the team to get prepared for the Sydney Test,” Australia coach Darren Lehmann was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

“Whether it’s a batter, bowler or all-rounder, we need to make sure players are 100 per cent,” he added.

Besides Marsh, in-form Australian opening batsman, David Warner, is also doubtful for the third Test, after suffering an injury to his thumb during the second match in Brisbane.

The third Test begins from December 26 in Melbourne.
